Best of the Best Technologies.
To achieve the highest image quality, all system components have to be of the highest caliber,
beginning with the digital camera. It’s a fact of life that still cameras are superior to video cameras for retinal photography because they have higher resolution and much less signal noise. The Kodak Professional DCS is the best still camera available for this application because it offers the widest exposure range (an incredible ISO 400-4000) for excellent low light level performance, and the greatest color depth (36-bit) for millions of degrees of color discrimination. It also offers a burst depth of 25+ images at 4.3 per second. There simply is no better alternative. For more information visit:

The second element is the computer and its operating system.
Apple Macintoshes are universally recognized as superior to PCs for graphic applications including photography. This is why virtually all graphic artists in the world use Macs for their important design work. It is clearly the best tool available. For your office, we can configure a network of Workstations and Viewstations to meet your needs. Macs also integrate comfortably with PC and UNIX environments so that images can be accessed on a PC network server and burned on CDs which are compatible with PC CD drives. |
"It's easy to exchange word-processing files, pictures and music between Windows
machines and Macs, because these types of data have settled into standard file formats."
— The Wall Street Journal, Personal Technology, Page B1, June 20, 2002 —
The third element is the image handling software.
eyeExpert's proprietary eyeDA™ Retinal Imaging Suite gives you the full range of capability for acquisition, processing, viewing, analysis, annotation, and storage of images. Its intuitive design and easy operation will be welcomed by photographer and doctor alike. Features include such niceties as preloaded lookup tables with standard ophthalmic terms and codes ready to use (of course you can add your own terms as well). Dr. Van Houten has refined this software over several years of use in his own practice. So you can be sure that it is proven under the difficult day to day conditions that exist in a busy practice.

The fourth element is the electro-optical adapter, which integrates all elements of the eyeExpert System with your existing fundus camera. The adapter includes a mechanical mount which attaches the Kodak digital camera to your fundus camera, an electronic link to the computer via a FireWire connection, an electronic link to the fundus camera for shutter and flash synchronization, and special optics to align the fundus camera image with the digital camera's sensor. While the term "adapter" sounds simple, the eyeExpert Adapters are actually complex devices that are specifically designed for each model of fundus camera. They enable all the pieces to work together in harmony.
The fifth element is the printer. Kodak's Professional Thermal Printers provide true photographic quality and durable laminated images. The technology used is a thermal dye diffusion (dye sublimation) process which is the state-of-the-art for professionals. This technology provides you with the highest print quality and durability from which to make your diagnoses and treatment decisions.
The sixth element is technical support. When you purchase an eyeExpert System, you receive on-site installation and in-depth training in your office by one of our technical support people. Following installation, you will receive excellent and responsive telephone technical support, including remote diagnostic capability. Our belief is that we can succeed only if you succeed with our products. So, we have a powerful incentive to serve you well.
Put all six of these elements together and you have the best retinal imaging system available anywhere at any price, ready for your office. In portable or desktop configurations, the eyeExpert Workstation offers these
advantages:
Superior color and black & white images -- no other system can offer you the resolution and vividness of the eyeExpert images. This means that you can see more, and provide better patient care.
Comprehensive image handling software designed and tested by an ophthalmologist
-- no other system can offer this advantage. The eyeDA Suite has been designed by Dr. Van Houten to give the ophthalmologist what he or she really needs for processing, storage, analysis, organization, and review of the images.
Portable and desktop solutions -- many ophthalmologists have satellite offices; the Macintosh Powerbook computer is slim, lightweight and very powerful. It's ready to go with you.
User-oriented and easy to learn -- you will appreciate the ease of use of eyeExpert systems. Use of the system is facilitated by many lookup tables that have preloaded terms and codes that are commonly used in ophthalmology. And, of course, you can customize the tables with your own terms.
Excellent, responsive support -- for installation, training and beyond, we're committed to your success with eyeExpert Systems.
State-of-the-art professional level camera and printer -- The Kodak Professional DCS camera is an outstanding piece of engineering and technology with impressive specifications. When you are not taking retinal photos, it could be used for other purposes by simply putting other Nikon lenses on it. The Kodak Professional Thermal Printers are the benchmarks for quality and durability in image printing.
Advanced computer systems -- with a stable operating system, tremendous power and wonderful design, the Macintosh is an engineering marvel.
Full 3-year warranties on hardware -- Kodak and Apple are first rate companies that back their products with 3-year warranties. We pass these along to you.
Telemedicine and network ready -- eyeExpert Systems are ready for your future communications plans whatever they may be.
